i've been trying to figure out watercolours lately.
i was at the store getting groceries, took a wrong turn at frozen yogurt and ended up in the craft section, where i found a lot of watercolours for a little money. i thought, "that seems like a good idea," and i bought them.
since, i have developed a whole new respect for people who can paint with watercolours. i've always got either too much paint on my brush or too much water, and it ends up looking a tad preschool.
however, even though i've not yet felt as though i've gotten what i was going for, i've made some fairly alright mistakes. kind of like going to the store for some eggs and coming home with paints instead.
would you care to see my favourite mistake?
i tried painting a map of the world, and ended up hating it. so i flipped it over and tried painting some hot air balloons on the other side, and ended up hating those, too. but when i was carrying it past a window to throw it in the garbage, i noticed this:
kind of like a stained glass window? kind of?

Practice makes perfect! I love it! I am pretty good at going to the store and buying everything BUT what I actually meant to get. Hahaha watercolors would be a pretty good random purchase though.
Wow! That's beautiful! Did you hang it in your window permanently?
What?! That is the best. So pretty and looks just like spring. Keep it!
Very cool!
It makes me think of around the world in 80 days, didn't they travel by hot air balloon?
Cool!
(I can't get the water to paint ratio right, either)
SO lovely. GOrgeous. I'm not kidding, here.
That is so cool--and I think you are a lot more talented than you think!
I am so rubbish at watercolours no matter how hard I try--sigh!
Yeah! It's like the balloons are floating over the earth. :)
well, i like them! but i understand the difficulty of watercolors...i can't get the darn stuff to do what i want, either.
yes, JUST like stained glass!
Looks great, beautiful colors! but you HAVE to hang it on the window to see it. Are you going to do it? I like painting with watercolors, but have your same problems and I never know how to get rid of the wavey paper.
YESSSSS. I want a stained glass window!
watercolors are my freaking favorite.
whoaaaa! you need to hang that in an extra sunny window - thats lovely!
xx, kara
That. Is. Awesome!
Um, I think it looks awesome. Don't throw it out! I'll take it off your hands! Haha.
When I paint with anything it looks like a 3-5 year old did it. Blah. I cannot draw, paint, sketch, or anything like that.
But honestly, I love this.
cool! Maybe hang it in the window!
haha isn't that the worst?? and then you get home to make supper and you're like, "crap. i can't make supper with PAINT!"
aw thanks! i...i don't know where i put it. i took some pictures and then...dropped it...somewhere. ha!
thanks merritt!! it does look springy.
oh, i miss spring.
oh yeah it's true! my subconscious was probably thinking of that movie. indeed.
right? i need lessons.
aw, thanks cara! :D
oh garsh. stop.
i figure it can only get better with practise. it certainly can't get worse, right?
so fun. i love balloons floating over the earth. you should fly a balloon here and let me get in it.
sigh. if i figure it out, i will let you know. i will give you a tip or something. :)
well i don't know!! maybe i should...i don't even know where it is. and the paper IS so wavy...i wonder how you would fix that?
ME TOO. they're my favourite kind of window. of course.
yeah because you rock at them... :)
garsh thanks kara. :) i need more extra sunny windows. the only good one has a TREE IN FRONT OF IT. rats.
oh shucks. thank you!
hahahah if you seriously wanted it, i'd let you have it. i feel very strange hanging up anything i've made in our house...so it probably will end up in the garbage. :) thanks for the kind words.
thanks erin!
I would buy the shit out of this art. I LOVE IT.
oh garsh. :)
Ooh I love it! This makes me wish I could paint, or draw, or do anything remotely artistic.
That looks so beautiful. Two wrongs definitely make a right!
shucks, thanks caitlin! i always had in my head that you were very artistic. so maybe you are and you just don't know about it yet?
