last night there was a storm.
there were tornado warnings and storm chasers and winds and dramatic lightning and thunder and rain and all that. my friends all huddled in their living rooms, nervously watching the skies and updating their facebook statuses. we did that for a while too, but there was a 3d movie at the imax that we hadn't seen yet {one of those nature ones with polar bears and walruses} so we went to the movies.
anyway. the movie was great; the ride home was a bit sketchy but we made it, and then we made popcorn and iced coffees and listened to the crashings for a bit from the safety of our living room, yada yada yada, storm storm storm, but THEN.
the storm passed, the sun peeked out a bit, and the sky was filled with mammatus clouds!
i'd never seen anything like it before. it was as though the sky was boiling. the city came out of hiding and everyone was on their front lawns taking cell phone pictures. it's kind of what i imagine the end of the world will be like--everyone hashtagging and social networking while the sky is being torn in two.

but the point is not that. the point, friends, is most definitely this:

wow.
unbelieveable!!! How COOL is that?
So. Stinking. Awesome. WOW so incredibly and ridiculously gorgeous!!!!
I went and picked up a friend to go for appies and we saw them - so she ran in to get her camera, I took cell phone pics, we called our husbands...and then as we also noticed everyone that was outside was taking pictures of the sky we were talking about what the clouds will look like on THAT day! Whoo!! It was awesome!
That is amazing! I saw your insta last night but I had no idea what it was! SOOO cool!
sooooo cool.
and you crack me up, haha.
Holy cow that is absolutely amazing! I have never heard of those clouds before but they are beautiful! What a treat for surviving the scary storm.
Seriously, where was I? I've seen everyone's pictures, but I saw no such clouds myself. You said they were after the storm? Weird. We have a big front window. Where were they?
I'm so jealousss I wish I could see this! There's nothing I love more than a (safe, non-harmful) event that brings everyone outside and makes you grin at stranger-neighbours. Again, so jealousss.
WOW! I've never even heard of those. They look awesome though.
So cool. I couldn't really see these properly on Instagram but WOW it's like science fiction eggs in the sky. Or Christmas tree baubles. Or both.
Ooo, very ohlala! Nature is a gorgeous gorgeous thing! :)
wow those are so cool! i've never seen such a thing before! they look so smooth.
VERY.
mmhm. just unreal...
oh no kidding hey? we ain't seen nothin yet...
indeed!
haha well that's good. :D
that's kind of what it felt like--a treat. though. everyone was on facebook uploading their cloud pictures with captions like, "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??!!! END OF THE WORLD!!!" because we'd just never seen anything like it.
you must not have looked at the right time? i don't know. strange...
totally. we all bonded over...clouds....
haha.
i hope you see some at some point in your life. as they started to dissipate, they began to just look like big cloud jellyfish. which was also pretty cool.
i hadn't either--did you click the link??
totally. science fiction SOMETHING.
i agree. i know i take the sky for granted sometimes, but it really is the coolest thing...
i know hey? i hadn't either. did you click the link?
they are amazing! i have never seen anything like that, i feel like they should be from some sci-fi film when aliens are going to kills us.
ahaha mammatus, they're basically BOOB clouds. classy. jealous that you saw this with your very own eyes! x
Those are sooo creepy. When you posted them on IG I made everyone around me look at them!
it FELT like a sci-fi film. just ridiculous...
yep, that's where they got the name from! haha. very classy. :)
i wish they were more common--they're just so nuts! but i guess if they were something you saw all the time you'd just get used to them...
They are incredible! You are so lucky to have seen them for real!
Woah, those clouds are amazing!
i know hey? i love being witness to something so rare...
